Will of Elizabeth Bolbie 1598

In the name of God amen the 8th day of February 1598 in the 41st year of her majesty's reign that now is. I Elizabeth Bolbie of Griffe in the parishe of Helmsley widow,sick in body but perfect in remembrance,praised be God Almighty,do order and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Saviour and redeemer by whom I trust to be saved and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Helmsley.

Item I give and bequeath my farm to my three sons James Bolbie,Raufe Bolbie and Thomas Bolbie equally to be divided amongst them always provided that Dorothie Robinson my daughter shall have the sowing of one mett of rye and one sack of oats yearly during my term clearly and without rent paying for the same amongst them,she finding seed.

Item I give to James Bolbie,Raiphe Bolbie,John Bolbie and Thomas Bolbie my sons eight oxen to be divided equally amongst them.

Item I give to my son John Bolbie ten sheep.

Item I give to Francis Stibbing one white mare and six sheep,one cow and one tagged whie. (ram)

Item I give to my son Thomas Bolbie's daughters either of them one calf.

Item I give to my son James his eldest son one calf.

Item I give to my son Raiphe his son one calf.

Item I give to my daughter Dorothie all my bedding and household stuff saving one standing bed.

Item I give to my son John Robinson one black stott. (pig)

I give two of my best cattle and ten ewes towards the payment of the portions of William and Elizabeth Dobson children of my daughter Dorothie with John Dobson my son-in-law deceased.And I will that the said two cows and ten ewes remain with my son Raiphe Bolbie and to be used by him to the best commodity of the said two children 'til they come of age.

Item I give to Adulyne Blannchard one young female sheep and to Elizabeth Scott one lamb.

Item I give to the three children of my son John to every of them one lamb.

Item I give to Margaret Robinson one lamb.

Item I give to John Wightman's little wench,whom I christened one young female sheep.

Item I give to Phillipp Greenside one lamb.

I give to Thomas my son one ewe.

I will that James and Raiphe Bolbie shall be executors of this my last will and testament,my debts,legacies and funeral expenses discharged.Then my will is that whatever remains shall be divided equally between John Bolbie and Dorothie Robinson my son and daughter.Whereof I make John Wightman of Scawton Croft supervisor of this my last will and testament.

In witness thereof I the said Elizabeth Bolbie have hereto set my hand the day and year above written.

Witness hereof George Lockwood,John Porner,John Wightman senior, John Wightman junior.

And on the same day and year the said dean certified about the proving of this will through the witnesses named and sworn etc.Administration of the goods of the same deceased was entrusted to James and Ralph Bolbie co-executors named in the same will,sworn etc.....
