1477. Mary BOWLBY (3423) (816)(6) (7)(8) was born in 1841 in Clermont County, Ohio.(7499) She died on 3 Jan 1900 in Maroa, DeWitt County, Illinois.(7500) Immediately after their marriage, J.W.B. and Mary moved to Tunbridge
Township, DeWitt County, Illinois, where they lived for one year. They
then purchased 160 acres of land 5 1/2 miles west of Maroa for $33.33
per acre and moved onto this property. Six sons were born to them
here: Henry, Charlie, David, William Olney, Ryland, and Amos. About
1878, J.W.B. purchased another 40 acres across the road. According to
MOROA CENTENNIAL 1854-1954, "This was paid for in gold. The gold was
kept in the basement of the house as banks were too new to be trusted.
W. O. Shaw remembers helping his father count the gold." J.W.B. later
purchased another 160 acres adjoining his property on the west for
$50.00 an acre. Several years after that, he bought another 80 acres
adjoining for $55.00 an acre and 120 acres at $47.50 an acre.

She was married to James William Belford SHAW on 9 Jan 1862 in Milford, Clermont County, Illinois.(7501) James William Belford SHAW(6) (7)(8) was born on 20 Sep 1840 in Clermont County, Ohio. He died on 27 Jan 1915 in Maroa, Macon County, Illinois. He was also known as "J. W. Snow". (7502) Immediately after their marriage, J.W.B. and Mary moved to Tunbridge
Township, DeWitt County, Illinois, where they lived for one year. They
